Before delving into today’s writing, read Ephesians 4.1-.6

"As a prisoner of the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received."

In today’s passage we discover Saul's, now Paul's, definition of the Christian life. Living a life worthy of God's calling is not a simple task, so the apostle explains a little of what it includes. His list includes humility, gentleness, patience, love, unity and peace all brought together into one by the single God we serve through faith and baptism.

Much of Paul's theology is wrapped up in these few verses, but as is usually the case with Paul, theology is expressed in practice. This is particularly evident in today's passage, where he defines a theological concept (the calling of a believer by God) with actions consistent with such a calling. If this were not enough, he tells us how God's nature (theology) bears out our hope and practice by being singular and omnipresent.

Read today's passage again, this time considering the theological concepts around God and God's chosen one's and why the practices Paul lists are natural fruits of that theology. Once you have done that, pray for God to open your eyes to opportunities which allow you to act in the ways Paul recommends. Close your time with God in thanksgiving for all He has done and allowed these past few days.
