With all due respect to the President, the shooting yesterday was not a political statement so it does not require a political solution. Who cares how many guns the guy owned? He only needed one.

According to students in the killing field (read “classroom”) the shooter asked each person about their faith. Christians he shot in the head, others he only wounded. These were his classmates, yet he had to ask them who was a Christian. This means the Christian students weren’t Bible-thumpers or in his face, so it wasn’t personal. The questions that need to be asked are (1) why the hate for people of faith? and (2) What is the gunman’s religious background?

This isn't a gun-control issue, it’s a spiritual one. No legislation can make a dent in the number of shootings in this country, look to Chicago, New York and Washington DC for proof of this statement. I understand the need to do something, but we should do something that matters. The biggest difference one can make is to lead another person to Jesus. No, this won’t defeat evil throughout the world but it defeats evil in one person’s life. One by one a difference can be made.

Jesus was one man, and he made the way open to everyone to know God:

For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control, but we see Jesus… now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by God’s grace he would experience death on behalf of everyone. For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For indeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the same origin, and so he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.” – Hebrews 2.8-12

Finally, let’s not remember the name of the perpetrator of such evil and instead memorize and praise the names of those who stood up for their faith in Jesus. They are the heroes of this tragedy.
