EvilPt2 large

Atheists often accuse religion in general and Christianity in particular of mass murder. In regard to Christianity they usually cite the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition where 200,000 and (at most) 150,000 people were slain respectively. Author Gregory Koukl stated the following:

It is true that it's possible that religion can produce evil, and generally when we look closer at the detail it produces evil because the individual people are actually living in a rejection of the tenets of Christianity and a rejection of the God that they are supposed to be following. So it can produce it, but the historical fact is that outright rejection of God and institutionalizing of atheism actually does produce evil on incredible levels. We're talking about tens of millions of people as a result of the rejection of God.

Seeing as how Atheists make up only 0.7% of America’s population, chances are you don’t know any. On the off chance you do, here’s a few questions you can ask.

  • Who was Choibalsan?
  • How about Mengistu?

These may be easier:

  • Who was Pol Pot? Mao? Stalin?

That’s right, they are all atheists. Choibalsan oversaw violent Soviet-ordered purges in the late 1930s that resulted in the deaths of an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 Mongolians. Effectively a dictator, Mengistu oversaw the Ethiopian Red Terror of 1977–1978, a campaign of repression; estimates of the number of deaths for which he was responsible range from 500,000 to over 2,000,000.

The combined effects of Pol Pot’s executions, forced labor, malnutrition and poor medical care caused the deaths of approximately 25 percent of the Cambodian population, roughly 1 to 3 million people. In 1957 Chairman Mao launched a campaign known as the Great Leap Forward which led to widespread famine and is estimated to have resulted in up to 45 million deaths. Stalin’s extremely brutal 30-year rule as absolute ruler of the Soviet Union featured so many atrocities, that the death toll directly attributable to Stalin’s rule amounted to some 20 million lives (on top of the estimated 20 million Soviet troops and civilians who perished in the Second World War), for a total tally of 40 million.

Thanks goes out to Wikipedia and the International Business Times for these figures.

I don’t mean to paint all atheists as bent on genocide and mass murder, they aren’t. But when you take a stand against the very notion of God’s existence bad things – no, evil things – happen. Author, musician and game designer Vox Day states:

The total body count for the ninety years between 1917 and 2007 is approximately 148 million dead at the bloody hands of fifty-two atheists, three times more than all the human beings killed by war, civil war, and individual crime in the entire twentieth century combined.

To reject God is an evil as old as Lucifer, but even the demons do not deny God’s existence. It takes a special commitment to the idea -- or the evil that can be perpetrated by the idea – that God does not exist to persist in its hopeless philosophy. While not all atheists are evil in the general sense of the word, Atheism is an evil philosophy that perpetrates the greatest evil’s the world has witnessed to date. Thank God that less than one percent of Americans find it appealing.
