When I was in high school I attended a Christian conference here in Denver. I don’t remember exactly how many students attended but the number was in the thousands. The news media showed up and we thought that finally a positive, Christian event was going to get the press it deserved. That night, watching the evening news, I was sorely disappointed. The news anchor didn’t even mention it was a Christian conference, only how many pizzas it took to feed all the attendees. I learned then to never trust the mainstream media.

So it does not surprise me in an age where non-Christian groups like Black Lives Matter and Occupy Wall Street make headlines, that the Passion Conference in Atlanta, Georgia isn’t getting the attention it should. When the media reports so much fake news one would think they would be clamoring to report any real news. I suppose they’re avoiding it because 50,000 millennials attending such an event doesn’t fit their narrative that this age group is turning away from religion in general and Christianity in particular. Some of the conference sessions are being cast here: 268Generation.com/passion2017

There is plenty of evidence that the generation coming up isn’t as godless as the media would like us to believe. There are many organizations still reaching youth in large numbers as my friends Greg Stier from Dare 2 Share and Bill Jack of World View Academy can attest. Both of these ministries, by the way, are worth supporting if you are looking for places to donate to or buy resources from. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I should state that I’ve worked for both these organizations, though not recently, and therefore have an insider perspective on these ministries.)

These days there are a myriad of places one can get their news, and each news outlet has its own particular bias, even if they claim otherwise. No matter which outlet you choose, it is important to not accept every story at face value. Often the media only reports part of the story. Think the report through yourself and come up with questions about it. You will likely find that your questions go unanswered. Whether the reporter simply did not do their job in getting the whole story, or an editor shaped the story to fit their viewpoint doesn’t matter – its shoddy journalism all the same. Unfortunately that’s what we’re left with in the “information age”.

Next week the US swears in a new president. Regardless of what you think about Donald Trump, he will be shaping the nation for at least the next four years. For this reason Think-Biblically.com is interested in PEOTUS’ choices for those he wants to help usher him into office. He has selected six religious figures, five Christians and one Jewish Rabbi, to read from the Bible and pray for his presidency. Starting next Tuesday we will be bringing you short bio’s on each of them focusing on their beliefs. It’s an angle you aren’t likely to find anywhere else and we look forward to bringing it to you.

One last thought in closing out the week, regardless of what the media may report, or who wins an election, always follow the advice of the Psalmist:

“Put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore” -- Psalm 131:3
