"Media" used to mean "print media" like books and newspapers, but the world has grown. Today media can also mean radio, television and movies delivered to personal computers, tablets and cell phones. As the world's best selling book of all time the Bible continues to make headlines, both good and bad, across all forms of media. Pakistani Asia Bibi whose life is in eminent danger is denied religious refuge status by the United Kingdom, Big Bang star Mayim Bialik criticizes the Bible's parenting advice, and Black Panther star Letitia Write reveals how her Christian Faith shapes her acting career.

Asia Bibi, the Christian woman in Pakistan who was acquitted of blasphemy last week, was refused asylum by the United Kingdom this week. Still living under constant threat of death by Muslims, if ever there were a case for religious asylum this is it. So why is the UK denying her request? According to Wilson Chowdhry, chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) the British authorities were intimidated by militant Muslims. Chowdhry told the Huffington Post:

“I’ve been led to believe that the U.K. government had concerns that her moving to the U.K. would cause security concerns and unrest among certain sections of the community and would also be a security threat to British embassies abroad, which might be targeted by Islamist terrorists.”

He also said that Bibi's chances of survival in Pakistan are zero. Perhaps the US State Department can intercede — before it's too late.

I know how much we all love it when people who have never read the Bible comment on it, so I know our readers will be thrilled to hear that Mayim Bialik, actress on "The Big Bang Theory" says the Bible is wrong about disciplining children. She refers to Proverbs 13.24 and concludes saying, "so let's not use the Bible as our parenting guide for the 21st century. Okay? Great." Bialik wrote a book on parenting and is an denounces spanking as a form of punishment. She argues, "You can't hit your spouse, you can't hit your student, you can't hit a stranger, you can't even hit your dog, yet we have laws protecting... hitting a child." To be clear, the Bible does not condone child abuse but does leave physical discipline on the table. While I was never spanked as a child, the threat was there and it kept my sister and I in line. Perhaps Bialik should try reading a book before condemning it.

Actress Letitia Write, best known for her role in the major motion picture "Black Panther", revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that her faith helps shape her career. Before filming began Write took some time off from acting to find her place in life, telling FaithWire in a recent interview:

“So I came off from it and I went on a journey to discover my relationship with God, and I became a Christian,” she said. “It really just gave me so much love and light within myself. I felt secure, like I didn’t need validation from anyone else, or from getting a part.”

The light of the Gospel shines in every corner, all we have to do is respond.
