When we think of the creation event, we think of the big acts of creation like the stars, planets and animals. Rarely do we consider the miraculous of the minute, things like molecules and atoms and gravity, all working perfectly and in order with constancy and consistency. Like gravity's constant pull there is another reality that works just as powerfully, a force not of nature but of super-nature: God's glory. It is for this reason that the seraphim sing in Isaiah 6, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."

His glory, that is everything that makes God distinct and admirable, is present in all of God's creation. This is why we call to El Hakabodh, the God of glory. The God of Heaven has a voice, a voice that can call galaxies into existence and spin electrons around molecules. His voice can be louder than waterfalls and his whispers as soft as rustling leaves in the wind.

YHWH’s shout is heard over the water;

El Hakabodh thunders,

YHWH appears over the surging water

— Psalm 29.3

His glory is as constant as a heartbeat and never ends. His glory is a fact and is not something we can add to or subtract from, but it is something we can give and reflect.

It is a part of being an image-bearer of God, to reveal his glory. For this reason the Christian does not seek his own glory, but to shine God's glory to the rest of humanity. Jesus said we shouldn't hide our light under a bushel, but for too many Christians that is exactly what we do. We want to live our lives in a secret relationship with God, trotting him out into the open only around others of like spirituality. That is not what God intended, and we all know it. Jesus tells us let our "light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5.16). Our light is God's glory, and it our calling to let it shine so that God's glory may be known, and all of creation may sing along with the hosts of heaven.

Of all the names of God we've discussed so far, this is the one that should be forever on our lips. El Hakabodh, the God of Glory, is who we serve, who we love, and who we exalt with our lives. One final reminder comes to us from Jesus in John 7, "The person who speaks on his own authority desires to receive honor for himself; the one who desires the honor of the one who sent him is a man of integrity, and there is no unrighteousness in him."
