"Media" used to mean "print media" like books and newspapers, but the world has grown. Today media can also mean radio, television and movies delivered to personal computers, tablets and cell phones. As the world's best selling book of all time the Bible continues to make headlines, both good and bad, across all forms of media. Happy birthday Darwin, the racist "fake-science" writer, lots of love for those scientists signing "A Scientific Dissent from Darwinism", and big round of applause to British moms and dads for ending the high school musical "Darwin Rocks!" and a look at other possible fake science issues.

Happy belated birthday to Charles Darwin, wherever he may be. The philosopher revered by many secularists around the globe has his own day, Darwin Day, celebrated on February 12 of each year. I'm interested, however, if celebrants know who Darwin really was? The title of his book that high school teacher John Scopes fought so hard to get into public schools saying, "it's science!" belies its scientific claims: The Origin of the Species and the Preservation of the favored Races. In it, Darwin teaches that blacks are closer to humanity's ape ancestors than white people. If racism isn't bad enough, he continued on making claims that today are known falsehoods. Claims like, "the human embryo undergoes its complete evolution from single cell organism through fish and reptile to ape and human" might have been considered "science" in 1925, but less than a hundred years later real science has determined that every claim and teaching in Darwin's book, with the single exception of his core idea that one animal can evolve into a completely different animal, have been proven false. Today we have "fake news" but in 1925 during the famous Scopes Trial I suppose it was "fake science" that was all the rage.

As a result, scientists who aren't afraid of getting dropped from their university jobs or losing the funding have started signing "A Scientific Dissent from Darwinism." This statement reads in part, “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.” To be eligible to sign this list one must have a PhD in a scientific field or hold an MD and be employed as a professor of medicine. Thank you signers, for your honesty and integrity.

Just as the scientific community is starting to question the legitimacy of Darwinism, some parents in Great Britain are too. After parents complained about the content and teaching in a school musical called "Darwin Rocks!" the school canceled rehearsals and performance dates. The publisher calls the play an “unforgettable, light-hearted look at Charles Darwin’s work," but parents called it sham that misrepresents both Christianity and science. According to the BBC, one parent complained thinking it would discourage her daughter from her goal of being a person of faith and an engineer. Their fears were not unfounded as the chorus from the title track is a repetitious singing of, “Darwin rocks! History would show it.” As we've stated, all history shows is that Darwin was a racist and a very bad scientist. Thank you parents for being good guardians of your kids and their worldview.

Whatever your belief — even if you believe that evolution is true — we should all be intellectually honest and call out errors when we find them. We also should look at history because it often repeats. In 1925 Darwin's ideas were presented as "science" and so US courts were duped into making it mandatory reading in public schools. In 1973 proponents of abortion claimed "science" sees a human embryo as a piece of tissue indistinguishable from other tissue in a woman's body until much later in the pregnancy, something that real science has proven false. An embryo is identifiable as a human child only 8 weeks into the pregnancy. Yet those fake science arguments were compelling at the time and helped dupe the US Supreme Court to pass Roe v. Wade. What other fake science is being presented today? What's that? "Climate" what...?
